12. Make cake from scratch five times (1/5)
20. Try at least two new recipes a month (1/66)
Over the weekend I made pound cake to bring to the Memorial Day barbecues. While it wasn't ready for the first barbecue (no where near cool enough to transport), it was perfect of the second. I brought strawberries and blueberries as a patriotic topping, and it came out very well. Everyone seemed to enjoy it, especially Peter. It wasn't that hard to make (oven timing issues aside), so it is definitely something that I would be interested in making again. I did add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the recipe and would even consider adding a little more next time. Not a bad start for two items on the list.
On a blog that I follow, I found a reference to this challenge. Thinking that I am in a horrible rut, I decided to take the 101 in 1001 challenge.

# 12, # 17 and #20
12. Make cake from scratch
17. Make something for each family gathering
20. Try at least two new recipes a month (28/68)
On Sunday, I made a banana birthday cake for Greg and Dan from scratch. I had a hard time getting it out of the pan, so it wasn't presented in the prettiest way, and I wasn't able to dust powdered sugar on top. At least I remembered to bring my birthday candles. Despite the removal issues, I really liked the cake, so did Geoff, and the fact that it hit three items on the list, completing one of them, was a huge perk.
